I lead our Energy Transition and Sustainability team, part of Grant Thornton's Energy and Utilities practice. We help government, regulators, investors and developers turn energy transition ambition into projects that get funded and built, across offshore wind, hydrogen and carbon capture, heat networks, EV charging and energy from waste.

I've spent my entire career in energy and climate, and I'm interested in the point where policy meets commercial reality. Most projects I look at do not fail on technology. They fail because the policy, the funding route and the commercial model were designed separately and never quite met.

My team works across policy and regulation, funding and financing, transaction and procurement advisory, and financial modelling. Recent work includes advising The Crown Estate on the design of Floating Offshore Wind Leasing Round 5, which allocated 3GW of capacity in the Celtic Sea, and an industry task force on multipurpose interconnectors with National Grid and RenewableUK.

Before joining Grant Thornton in late 2021, I was a senior civil servant at the heart of the UK Government. I led large teams in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), now the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), and its predecessor, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC). I directly advised the Energy Secretary, junior Ministers and Special Advisors across DESNZ, HM Treasury and Number 10.

Outside of work, I’ve been charging vehicles since 2016, am a dad to two children and spend my spare time introducing them to the joys (and occasional fires) of campervan electrical systems…I also volunteer with Engineers Without Borders.
