I am a former senior civil servant and have 15 years’ energy and business policy expertise at the heart of the UK government. I have led large teams of policy and finance professionals in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department of Energy and Climate Change. At the firm, I lead the creation of a new net zero practice, supporting clients to understand and plan for their transition to a lower carbon future.
I have built lasting and productive relationship with a number of ministers while helping them to deliver their agenda. Recently, this has included the creation of the UK’s first Sovereign green bond and the creation of the UK Infrastructure Bank. I have also led policy development across energy technologies from renewables to refining, EV infrastructure and heat networks which are the core components of our net zero future.
I created the Clean Growth Fund, a £100m venture targeted at UK energy innovation companies and projects, anchored with £20m of government funding. I have sat on investment committees overseas significant energy infrastructure investment in heat networks and EV charging infrastructure. I have created Whitehall’s only team of equity analysts – a unique skill set within HMG which turbocharged the government’s ability to understand business. I have also led negations on behalf of ministers with large corporates seeking funding from HMG in the refining, oil and gas and renewables sectors.
Outside of work, I am a father to two young children and when time allows, find an outlet for my love of engineering which is often in the form of power tools, heat pumps or camper van and coffee machine repair.
