Starting your professional career as a trainee in a professional services firm gives you a fantastic grounding to build your future career. As you will see from the stories across this site, careers with Grant Thornton really can take you anywhere. But that also needs commitment from you.

Whether you join as an apprentice or a graduate, you will have 3 or 4 years of hard work ahead of you, and whilst we'll support you to achieve your best - you need to find the balance, and you need to want to succeed as well.

You won't be starting alone. Whether you join us as an apprentice, graduate, intern or placement student, you'll join alongside many others at the same stage of your career. Many of our people tell us they made friends for life in those first few months, going through the same experiences and adjustments together.

For apprentices and trainees, your time with us kicks off with our Talent orientation event: a two-week period mixing in-office and home learning with college days, ending in a two-day conference bringing all our new trainees together in person.

Our training contracts run three to five years, and you'll study towards a number of qualifications along the way. You'll have college days throughout, plus paid study leave in the run-up to exams.

Passing them takes dedication: planning your study and giving yourself the time to prepare properly. Most people at the firm have been through the same process, so they know exactly how it feels. Talk to them, let them know when exams are coming up, and ask for support if you need it.

Starting in a professional workplace for the first time can feel like a lot, and we don't expect you to know everything straight away. What we do expect is that you'll listen, take on board any advice you're given, and read through the preparation materials we send before you join.

As part of your onboarding, you'll get a monthly newsletter to keep you up to date with our latest news and help you feel prepared for joining the firm.

A career with Grant Thornton can take you further than you expect, if you're willing to put the work in. Say yes to what comes up, and get involved.

Secondments and team moves typically open up once you've completed your training contract. Before that, there's still plenty of scope to broaden your experience while you're working towards your qualification.
