I have over 10 years’ experience in providing tax services to businesses in financial distress or insolvency across a range of sectors.
The last thing a business in financial distress needs is an unexpected tax liability. As part of the Restructuring Tax team, I work closely with my colleagues in Restructuring to minimise the risk of unwarranted tax liabilities arising and to help provide all-round, practical and timely advice to our clients. This could involve conducting independent business reviews (IBRs), reviewing forecasts to ascertain if tax liabilities are accounted for correctly, assisting with time to pay applications to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) or advising on the tax implications of a tax restructuring.
I have advised on the restructuring and rescue of companies across all sectors, including leisure, retail, manufacturing, technology and real estate, with varying levels of debt.
I also work on insolvencies, including those arising due to suspected fraud, helping to identify and realise tax assets, and minimise the tax leakage from the realisation of assets, thereby increasing the funds available to distribute to creditors. This has resulted in exposure to a wide range of taxes, including corporation tax, international tax, VAT, stamp duty and stamp duty land tax, PAYE operated by way of real time information and the construction industry scheme.
In addition to the above, I assist the tax committee of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3) in working with HMRC regarding the operation of tax in rescue situations and insolvency, and the impact of new policies on those in distress or insolvency.
