I have over 15 years’ experience in providing tax advice to businesses in financial distress or insolvency. I also work with groups which are looking to simplify their group structure by eliminating unnecessary subsidiaries both in the UK and overseas.
Financial distress and closing down a business bring with them a lot of uncertainties. Holding both tax and insolvency qualifications I draw on a wealth of experience to minimise the risk of an unexpected tax liability arising, providing all-round practical and timely advice to my clients. This includes advising on the tax implications of a debt restructuring, assisting with time to pay applications to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), forecast reviews, advising on tax arising on a pre-pack or in an insolvency process, or helping to navigate the tax requirements at the end of a company’s life.
I have advised companies across all sectors, including financial services, retail, manufacturing, and construction. As a result I have experience of a wide range of taxes, including corporation tax, international tax, VAT, stamp duty, stamp duty land tax, PAYE operated by way of real time information and the construction industry scheme. In addition, I sit on a working group with the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3) and HMRC regarding the operation of tax in rescue situations and insolvency, and advising on the impact of new policies on those in financial distress or insolvency.
As someone who is passionate about development and learning, I am the chair of governors of an independent girls’ school and relish the opportunity and privilege of helping to shape their futures.
