I lead the firm’s restructuring and insolvency tax team and specialise in providing tax advice to distressed businesses or their stakeholders on all aspects of restructuring, refinancing or rescue transactions. I also provide pre and post insolvency tax advice in relation to formal insolvency appointments, including corporate simplification exercises, as well as advising purchasers on the tax implications of acquiring businesses or assets in distressed scenarios, whether through consensual or non-consensual deals.
I have significant experience of the interaction of tax and insolvency law and enjoy working with businesses and their stakeholders to find practical solutions to complex situations. As head of the restructuring and insolvency tax team, I also coordinate all UK and international taxes relating to distress or restructuring transactions, including corporate, individual, VAT and customs duties, stamp taxes and employment taxes.
I have been a tax adviser for over 30 years, with the last 15 specialising in distress and insolvency, and have advised on a number of high profile cases across a variety of sectors, including several ground-breaking cases. Prior to joining the firm in 2012, I was a tax director specialising in restructuring and insolvency and, prior to that, I provided international and corporate tax advice to large multinationals.
Outside work, I am married with two children and, when time permits, I am a keen runner.
