Headquartered in Enstone, the Formula One team has been owned by Genii Capital since 2009 has raced under the Lotus moniker since 2012. Despite limited financial resources curtailing in-season development of the car in 2015, it finished sixth in this season’s Constructors’ Championship.
The acquisition of the Lotus F1 Team by Renault will mark the return of Renault as a formula one constructor. Renault previously won the formula one constructors’ and drivers’ championships with Fernando Alonso in 2005 and 2006.
