We are delighted to have advised Renault Sport S.A.S on their acquisition of Lotus F1 Team.
Headquartered in Enstone, the Formula One team has been owned by Genii Capital since 2009 has raced under the Lotus moniker since 2012. Despite limited financial resources curtailing in-season development of the car in 2015, it finished sixth in this season’s Constructors’ Championship.
The acquisition of the Lotus F1 Team by Renault will mark the return of Renault as a formula one constructor. Renault previously won the formula one constructors’ and drivers’ championships with Fernando Alonso in 2005 and 2006.
We provided transaction and tax advisory services.
In helping us facilitate the acquisition of Lotus, Grant Thornton's transaction advisory services team provided state of the art services, based on (i) their thorough experience in Formula One deals and (ii) excellent coordination between their respective teams in London and Paris. During the whole process, they demonstrated extensive availability and high-quality professional skills. Finally, they added real value in our negotiations with the vendor through first class and accurate reporting. I really look forward to working with Grant Thornton on future cross border transactions.Thierry Cognet Financial Operations Director, Renault S.A.S
