New partners bolster tax and audit capabilities

Grant Thornton UK LLP today announces significant investment into the future of its London Audit and Tax Practice with the appointment of five new partners.  The new partners are: Matt Maltz, Real Estate Tax Partner; Jessica Patel, Real Estate Tax Partner; Marc Roberts, Real Estate Advisory Partner; Nick Warner, VAT Partner and Sergio Cardoso, Audit Partner.

Real Estate Tax Partner Matt Maltz joins the firm from EY.   Having advised on tax planning and big ticket cross border transactions for real estate funders and major corporate institutional investors for close to 18 years, Matt brings a wealth of experience to Grant Thornton.  His specialist areas include fund structuring and reducing tax leakage on an ongoing basis for property holding structures.  Matt is a regular presenter at top industry conferences.

In an additional boost for Grant Thornton’s Real Estate Tax practice leadership Jessica Patel has been promoted to Partner.  Jessica joined the firm as a trainee is 2003 and has risen through the ranks, amassing a broad range of experience. She advises a wide variety of clients, ranging from UK property investors and developers to overseas investors and property funds.  Jessica works closely with clients to manage tax for growing property portfolios efficiently, taking into account financial and commercial implications.

Grant Thornton has further invested in its real estate capabilities with the appointment of Marc Roberts, also joining the firm from EY where he was Real Estate Advisory Lead. Marc has over 25 years’ experience, drawing on previous roles at EY and PwC and on the client side working for international banks such as Morgan Stanley, HSBC and UBS.  Marc is a recognised subject matter expert in global strategic property reviews, global property services outsourcing, joint venture real estate structures and real estate funding structures.  Joining Marc in his move to Grant Thornton from EY is his team, which includes senior managers Sam Thurgood, Alex Rowley and Zaid Furreedan and Manager, Damien Harkin.  The team has wide-ranging industry experience in residential and commercial development, asset management, real estate finance and occupier solutions.

Nick Warner joins Grant Thornton’s VAT team, as VAT Partner based in London. Nick has nearly 30 years’ experience in VAT in HMRC, industry and the profession.  He has specific industry focus in Financial Services, especially the insurance sector, where he has provided advice for many years to a wide range of household-name insurers and brokers.  He is a regular presenter at high profile insurance conferences, covering both VAT and insurance premium tax issues. He has also worked in the real estate sector, with particular focus on hotels and care homes.

Sergio Cardoso has been promoted to Partner in the Audit practice. His focus is on dynamic, fast-growing and entrepreneurial private companies as well as multinational and AIM-listed groups.  Sergio works with businesses who continue to seize the opportunity to expand, often in to international territories, to achieve their growth ambitions.  He is part of the firm’s global audit quality monitoring team and promotes the delivery of consistent, high quality client service worldwide.
