New leadership course for UK employee owned organisations

Activate Business School, part of Activate Learning Group, and Grant Thornton UK LLP, a leading business advisory firm, offer two new leadership programmes specifically for employee owned organisations, designed with the Employee Ownership Association (EOA).

Employee owned businesses contribute 4% to the UK GDP annually and represent a rapidly growing sector, particularly as business leaders look to develop new approaches for sharing in success.

The leadership programmes are designed with this type of forward-looking organisation in mind.  The programmes feature tailored modules that provide managers and business leaders with the insights they need to better perform as outstanding leaders.

The focus for the individual is improved self-awareness and influencing skills, proven to lead to performance improvements.  The wider business drivers include succession planning, employee engagement and developing financial acumen.

Kerry Roberts, Director of Activate Business School, said:

“We are so pleased with the collaboration and the resulting programmes. They will ensure employees can thrive in the workplace”.

“These programmes are very unique and offer a development solution that meets employee needs and fully aligns to corporate objectives and the principles of employee ownership.”

The two programmes are eligible for Apprenticeship Levy funding and include the  Team Leader Programme at Level 3, accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), and the Management Programme at Level 5,  accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Justin Rix, Partner and Head of at Grant Thornton UK LLP, said:

“We increasingly see more organisations moving towards a culture of employee ownership, empowering employees with open communication, transparent decision-making and a genuine share in the profits.  Enhanced leadership capabilities provide the opportunity to expand and embed what makes being part of employee owned business unique.

“Grant Thornton applies expertise across both finance and cultural change, developing managers to become high-performing leaders and drive employee ownership culture within your teams.  We see this as a fantastic way to improve organisational performance and deliver the best results for the business.”

The programmes combine classroom-based teaching with performance coaching to develop practical leadership knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Deb Oxley, CEO of the Employee Ownership Association said:

“We are delighted to have collaborated with Activate Business School and Grant Thornton to support the development of these training modules through our networks of employee owned businesses.

“They are amongst the first to answer the call in our Ownership Dividend report action plan for educators and trainers to develop training programmes and modules for employee owned businesses or those studying business. We hope this will support the continuing trend of employee ownership in the UK becoming more respected, more widespread and more successful as it moves into the mainstream of business ownership.”

Delivered by experts at Activate Business School and Grant Thornton UK LLP, the programmes are tailored to individual business needs.

Standalone modules on employee Engagement and Finance for Employee Ownership workshops are also available, complementing the 18-24 month leadership apprenticeships.

These workshops can be delivered in-house or with other employee owned organisations -from first time managers to board members.
