Grant Thornton launches new healthcare advisory offerings

Leading business and financial adviser Grant Thornton UK LLP has bolstered its healthcare advisory offerings with two new senior appointments.

Malcolm Lowe-Lauri joins the firm as Head of Healthcare Consulting. Previously Executive Director of Cambridge University Health Partners, Malcolm has had a distinguished career spanning 32 years in health services leadership and management, including 17 as a CEO.

He is a Fellow of the Cambridge Judge Business School, teaching on the MBA programme and delivering Operations in Practice workshops to clinical groups. Malcolm has contributed to the development of key NHS policies including the performance ratings systems and metrics, the Foundation Trust Regime and the National Institute for Health Research.

In his new role, Malcolm will focus on developing and leading a new consulting offering to work alongside NHS organisations to create realistic and deliverable plans.

Malcolm’s appointment follows Matt Custance joining the firm last year as a Healthcare Partner in its public services advisory practice. Matt is one of the UK’s leading experts on major transactions involving the NHS and has advised public sector organisations for over 25 years. Matt will work alongside Malcolm to develop Grant Thornton’s healthcare transactions business.

Commenting on his appointment, Malcolm Lowe-Lauri said: “I’m delighted to be joining Grant Thornton and am excited to develop the firm’s healthcare consultancy offering. It has never been more important for our public services to be supported effectively and provided with leading, quality, strategic advice. I am passionate about delivering quality work for clients and look forward to working with Grant Thornton’s expert advisers to make a meaningful difference to public healthcare organisations.”

Will McWilliams, Head of Public Services, Grant Thornton UK LLP, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Malcolm to the firm. His appointment demonstrates Grant Thornton’s continued investment in its healthcare offering and commitment to supporting the country’s vital public services. Malcolm’s extensive experience will be critical to developing our new consultancy offering for healthcare clients. It will complement and enhance the services that Matt Custance has already started to offer around healthcare transactions.”

Matt Custance added: “The UK’s health system is under huge financial and operational pressures. So, consulting and advisory approaches need to change. Malcolm and I aim to build a new advisory offering that is more integrated, more respectful of the customer’s own expertise and more collaborative. We are dedicated to becoming the most trusted healthcare partner in the market and are determined to give clients more choice – more choice of adviser and more choice in the way they work with us.”
