Universities: Navigating the financial challenges – the outlook in Scotland
ArticleHow can Scottish universities proactively rise to their funding challenges to increase resilience?
I work with businesses and their stakeholders to provide support in developing and implementing practical, solution-focused strategies when additional funding is required to capitalise on growth opportunities, or where there is a need to restructure to secure the business’ long-term success.
I am engaged by a full spectrum of businesses from owner-managed SMEs to large PLCs across a range of sectors but with particular experience in the energy, manufacturing, real estate and financial services sectors.
Recent projects include:
Energy experience includes projects with a focus on renewables, energy suppliers and unlocking what energy transition means for businesses financially and commercially.
I recognise the importance of reporting findings in a clear, concise manner and a format easily digestible by management and stakeholders when the decision-making window is short.
Working on cross-border assignments has given me valuable insights into the mindsets of businesses active internationally and has included spending time working in India and UAE. I have been involved in a number of projects locally involving Luxembourg company and Jersey property unit trust structures, ensuring compliant, effective restructuring options are developed and implemented.
I also have significant experience acting for the public sector on business reviews, cashflow monitoring, transaction support, and subsidy control considerations in the context of proposed financial support and contingency planning.
Each week I’ll typically work from both our Glasgow and Edinburgh offices, with regular travel elsewhere in the UK and beyond for project delivery.
Outside of work, I enjoy making the most of my home city’s dining out and live music offerings. I have a strong interest in the third sector and international development, having until recently volunteered as vice-chair of a national membership-led charity (including the role of audit and finance committee chair).
