We are delighted to have advised Liberty Wines Limited on the sale of a minority stake in the business to Sogrape Vinhos.

David Gleave founded Liberty Wines in 1997 and has grown it into a leading quality wine company that imports and distributes premium wines from 20 countries and works with over 300 producers. Customers range from small, family-owned pubs such as The Cricketers and The Butcher's Hook to Michelin-starred London restaurants like The River Café and Le Gavroche. They include small and large restaurant groups, such as Jamie's Italian and the Peach Pubs.

The shareholders were approached by Sogrape Vinhos, a family-owned Portuguese winery, who were interested in acquiring a minority stake in Liberty Wines due to its premier position in UK distribution.

We were appointed to advise the shareholders of Liberty Wines on the transaction. Our team ran an effective process, managing the due diligence process and providing input on commercial terms. The transaction gives a great result to all parties. Sogrape will benefit from Liberty Wine’s UK distribution network and Liberty Wines will benefit from Sogrape’s portfolio and their established route to market in new territories.
