Grant Assurance Director

For more than 20 years, I've worked across UK Government and international development, delivering strategy, programme and grant management outcomes for funders, delivery partners and the organisations receiving funding. As a Director in Grant Thornton's grants practice, my work spans the full grants lifecycle — from strategy and policy design through to delivery, assurance and insight.

I'm particularly passionate about closing the gap between policy intent and what actually happens on the ground. Nowhere was that clearer than co-designing HMRC's Customs Grant Schemes, supporting traders and customs intermediaries to prepare for the UK's exit from the EU. The first phase launched just 16 days after contract signature, meeting a commitment made to No.10 — a pace that meant building the operating model, systems and assessment process in parallel with actually running the scheme. It's the kind of pressure that teaches you fast what genuinely matters in grant delivery, and what's just process for its own sake.

More recently, I've turned that focus to local government. I'm the architect behind Grant Thornton's Local Authority Grants Pulse Survey, and I use our grants assurance data set to generate practical, evidence-based insight for local authorities navigating many of the same delivery and assurance pressures.

Outside work, you'll usually find me out running or on a very slow path towards my first hyrox. I love going to sporting matches with my son, whether that’s Ireland or the provinces in rugby or Manchester United it’s always a great way of
