Max Young

I have increasingly developed a focus on procuring rolling stock and am currently advising on every major procurement in the UK through engagements with Northern Trains, SouthEastern, ScotRail and TransPennine Express. In addition to procuring the rolling stock itself I have also advised extensively on procuring finance for new fleets, seeking value for money for our clients over the 30–40-year design life of the trains and helping to deliver £billions of investment into UK rail. I advise at all stages of the procurement process from issuing contract notices through to financial close ensuring our clients are supported throughout the whole lifecycle of the transaction.  

I’m fortunate to work with clients who are genuinely passionate about their industry and the communities that they serve. The engagements I work on are multi-disciplinary and involve working with multiple stakeholders including engaging with senior government officials. I particularly enjoy working in close-knit teams to problem solve and navigate the complexities that are inherent in any high-profile, high-value procurement. My track record of successful fleets procurement for clients including London Overground, the Docklands Light Railway, the Elizabeth Line and Scotrail gives significant reassurance to our clients. This was reflected in recent feedback from one of our clients, stating that “Max has a level of experience and insight which adds significant strategic value to our procurement,  he is a highly credible and effective communicator who instils much confidence across a range of stakeholders including the ‘day-to-day project team’, our external lawyers, bidders and with senior executives at the procuring authority”. 

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife, friends and family, travelling to new destinations and walking in the many hills in and around Edinburgh. I also enjoy a range of sports and closely follow both Edinburgh Rugby and the Heart of Midlothian Football Club.
