Luke Hartley

I joined the firm as a pensions advisory partner in 2022, having worked in employer covenant advisory for more than 15 years at two leading independent advisory firms.

As an employer covenant advisor, I support pension scheme trustees and corporates in agreeing funding strategies for their pension obligations. This is based on an assessment of the financial strength of the underlying corporate sponsor and the impact of any changes to it arising from, for example, corporate events or financial restructuring.

I have experience across the whole spectrum of covenant advisory services, including triennial reviews, annual monitoring, corporate restructuring and M&A activity, across a range of sectors and scheme asset sizes. I have a particularly strong understanding of regulatory engagement and enforcement (often in the context of corporate events), having worked on several landmark regulatory cases and through a six-month secondment to the Pensions Regulator in the first half of 2022.

My approach is client-driven, pragmatic and focused on delivering genuine, value-add advice, whether this is for the trustees of a multi-billion scheme navigating a cross-jurisdictional merger, or the directors of a small UK-centric business looking to ‘do the right thing’ in challenging economic circumstances.

When I’m not working you can usually find me in the garden under a pile of small children (I have four), listening to a podcast on a walk around my North London neighbourhood or reading a science-fiction novel (my favourite authors are Alastair Reynolds and Adrian Tchaikovsky). I’m also a committed foodie and make a mean Martini!
