John Stables

I'm a qualified insolvency practitioner and accountant working in our insolvency and asset recovery team, where I specialise in contentious insolvency investigations and litigation.

I joined the team in 2016, motivated by work that seeks to right the wrongs perpetrated against victims of fraudulent activity. Our corporate and personal insolvency appointments focus heavily on investigations, the tracing and recovery of assets, and formulating and pursuing claims, often across multiple jurisdictions.

This has included pursuing claims against delinquent directors for breaching the fiduciary duties they owe to companies, and seeking to realise assets in circumstances where they've been deliberately put beyond the reach of creditors. Significant cases where I've supported the IP include:

  • pursuing a UK judgment in the UAE, and subsequently obtaining, and seeking to enforce, a £16 million judgment in the UAE
  • a highly contentious UK bankruptcy with tax debts in excess of £30 million
  • a bankruptcy of a deceased estate, involving asset-tracing in multiple jurisdictions
  • advancing claims exceeding £1.5 million against individuals across multiple connected liquidations (including the initial appointment of provisional liquidators) relating to payroll fraud
  • litigation in Hong Kong by a British Virgin Islands-registered company relating to the misappropriation of funds totalling approximately USD 50 million.

Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my wife and our three young children (who keep us far too busy for any hobbies).
