Georgina Merriam

I specialise in international investigations into fraud, asset misappropriation, bribery and corruption, with particular experience in Europe, Latin America and Africa. I am a Chartered Accountant and speak English and Spanish. I support both private sector businesses and public organisations in identifying and responding to complex and urgent issues.

A sample of my recent engagements includes:

• Pre-recovery investigation and asset tracing across Europe and Latin America for two Brazilian bankruptcies with debts over $1bn
• Investigation into the use of subcontractors and financial reporting irregularities in the Puerto Rico subsidiary of a listed multinational consumer healthcare business
• Analysis in respect of a UK based multi-billion-dollar investment fund’s trading patterns and potential inflation of assets under management following whistleblower allegations regarding fund manager behaviour
• Procurement investigation on behalf of a UN organisation with detailed work in Argentina and Nicaragua
• Shadow investigation in respect of attempts by the finance team to mislead the auditors of the European subsidiary of a Japanese food and beverage company
• Forensic review on behalf of a European pharmaceutical company with a £650m loan which was about to breach its covenants as a result of risk areas highlighted during the external audit in its Spanish and Portuguese subsidiaries
• Investigation of alleged procurement fraud on behalf one of the largest trade unions in the UK. The investigation followed raids by law enforcement agencies, which were part of a joint enquiry with HMRC into allegations of fraud, bribery and money laundering
• Investigation into allegations of procurement fraud in India on behalf of a multilateral development bank with teams in India and the UK

Outside of work I’m a keen traveller, kitesurfer, runner and tennis player.
