As a chartered accountant, I have been specialising in accounting disputes and investigations since 2001. Prior to this, I spent four years as an auditor of a variety of businesses.
I am experienced in accounting integrity and conduct matters, including alleged accounting irregularities and fraud, professional negligence and disciplinary matters relating to accountants, and associated professional indemnity claims. I have particular experience advising in professional disciplinary enquiries led by the Financial Reporting Council, which investigates matters affecting the public interest.
I act as expert witness or adviser to parties in commercial disputes on matters such as quantum of loss arising from allegations including breach of contract, breach of warranty, loss of profits, post-transaction disputes, and fraudulent misrepresentation. I have acted in litigation as well as arbitration matters and expert determinations.
I provide early stage advice to enable clients to evaluate the claim, narrow the focus of the dispute, and make commercial decisions based on a realistic idea of quantum. I have given evidence and been cross-examined in a number of cases, and I have been described as “impressive” and “straight forward” as a witness.
As a SPA Advisory specialist, I assist parties to resolve post deal disputes, and also advise parties and their advisers pre-deal on the terms of the SPA, helping them to mitigate the risk of disputes arising, and protect value.
I assist corporate clients to investigate fraud within or against their organisations, identifying the impact, root causes and making recommendations to mitigate risk in the future.
In a personal capacity I am a Trustee and Director of a national charity that aims to reduce the number of children taken into care. The charity is called ‘Pause – creating space for change’, which supports women who have had children removed into care.
