Job Description:

Business Risk Services Assistant Manager - Data, AI & Analytics Services (AI Assurance & Advanced Analytics)

London, Sheffield, Birmingham or Manchester + hybrid working

NEW GROUND WON’T BREAK ITSELF.

Every day our teams help people in businesses and communities to do what is right and achieve their goals.

Our Business Risk Services (BRS) practice focuses on helping organisations manage risk, improve operational processes and realise strategic objectives. Our teams bring together deep sector knowledge with technical expertise to deliver internal audit, technology risk and assurance services to FTSE 100 and large, complex international organisations.

The Data, AI & Analytics team provides audit, assurance and advisory services to Grant Thornton clients in the UK and internationally. We help organisations meet their data and AI obligations, strengthen governance and controls, and unlock value from advanced analytics and AI in a responsible, proportionate and business‑relevant way.

As an Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in delivering AI assurance, data governance and advanced analytics internal audit engagements, working closely with the wider BRS team while developing your own technical depth and client-facing capability.

We’re happy to talk flexible working and consider reduced hours and job shares — we’ll support you to balance your work and life.

A look into the role

As an Assistant Manager within BRS, you will:

  • Support the delivery of client engagements focused on AI assurance, data governance, advanced analytics and technology risk, across internal audit, risk and advisory work.

  • Contribute to planning activities, including background research, risk assessments, audit scoping and preparation of planning documentation.

  • Perform and oversee fieldwork, including data analysis, control testing, model reviews and AI risk assessments, ensuring work is completed in line with Grant Thornton methodologies and quality standards.

  • Apply advanced data analytics and data science techniques to support audit testing, insight generation and assurance conclusions.

  • Support the review and assurance of AI models, data pipelines, analytics solutions and governance frameworks, under the guidance of more senior team members.

  • Draft clear, well‑structured sections of reports and presentations, translating technical findings into meaningful business insights for clients.

  • Coach and support junior team members, helping to build their technical skills in data analytics, AI assurance and audit delivery.

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of analytics tools, reusable assets and AI‑enabled audit approaches within the practice.

  • Build strong working relationships with clients and colleagues, demonstrating professionalism and curiosity in all interactions.

Knowing you’re right for us

Joining us as an Assistant Manager with a focus on AI assurance and advanced data analytics, the minimum criteria you’ll need includes:

  • A degree or formal qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, AI, Machine Learning, or a closely related discipline.

  • Experience working in internal audit, technology risk, data analytics, AI risk, or a related assurance or advisory role.

  • Practical experience using data analytics, data science or AI techniques to support assurance, risk or control‑focused work.

  • A strong interest in AI governance, responsible AI, model risk and data assurance, and how these apply in real‑world organisations.

It would be great if you also had some of the following (but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box — we’ll support your development):

  • Experience with data platforms, analytics tools or programming languages such as Python, SQL, Power BI, Alteryx, Knime, Tableau, Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric or similar.

  • Familiarity with AI concepts such as machine learning models, model lifecycle management, data quality, bias, explainability or monitoring.

  • Awareness of data governance, AI risk management or technology control frameworks (e.g. internal audit standards, data governance models, emerging AI assurance frameworks).

  • Experience working with enterprise systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) or large, complex data environments.

  • Progress toward a relevant professional qualification (e.g. CISA, AAIA, AIGP or similar), or an intention to pursue one.

Knowing we’re right for you

Embracing uniqueness, the culture at Grant Thornton thrives on the contributions of all our people. We never settle for what is easy — we look beyond to deliver the right thing, for everyone.

Our open and accessible culture means you’ll work closely with leaders who are invested in your development, giving you the opportunity to grow your technical expertise in AI assurance and advanced analytics while building a strong consulting and audit skillset.

Beyond the job

Life is more than work. That’s why we support flexible working options and focus on helping our people maintain a healthy balance between their professional and personal lives.

The impact you can make here will go far beyond your day job — whether through innovation in AI assurance, supporting responsible use of emerging technologies, or contributing to wider firm and community initiatives. It’s how it should be.
