Job Description:

Are you just about to be fully qualified and ready to take your first full step as Audit Assistant Manager but are keen to explore a new challenge in a different firm? If so, let us tell you what it’s like to work within FS Audit at Grant Thornton, and what can we offer you that others don’t.

Why Audit at Grant Thornton

Our Financial Services Audit team is a specialist practice of approximately 160 professionals based in London, focused exclusively on delivering high-quality audits across the financial services sector. We work with a diverse and growing portfolio of clients including asset managers, alternative investment funds, wealth managers, brokers, fintech's and other regulated businesses.

We are proud of the strong position our audit practice is in from a quality, wellbeing and resource perspective, supported by positive results and a culture that encourages collaboration, development and continuous improvement. We are currently in an exciting period of growth, creating excellent opportunities for ambitious auditors looking to build their careers in a dynamic and evolving sector.

As part of our team, you'll benefit from close connections with Grant Thornton's wider Financial Services Group (FSG), one of the largest professional services teams focused on the UK financial services industry. With over 800 professionals dedicated to the sector, our multidisciplinary specialists provide insights across audit, tax, advisory and regulatory matters. Our senior team regularly engages with regulators and industry bodies including the PRA, FCA, IMA, AIC and ICAEW, ensuring our people remain at the forefront of regulatory and market developments affecting our clients.

Financial services businesses operate in an increasingly complex and heavily regulated environment. The sector continues to evolve rapidly, creating new risks, business models and reporting challenges. We are looking for individuals who are curious, commercially aware and willing to challenge constructively, helping clients navigate change whilst delivering high-quality assurance.

We take a digital-first approach to audit, leveraging innovative audit technologies, data analytics and automated testing tools to enhance audit quality and efficiency. By automating routine procedures, our teams can focus on understanding risk, exercising professional judgement and building meaningful relationships with clients.

Our size and culture allow us to offer the best of both worlds: the opportunity to work with complex financial services organisations while maintaining the visibility, responsibility and flexibility that enables you to shape your own career. We will support your development through tailored learning programmes, on-the-job coaching and experiences that help you reach your full potential.

We're also keen to support and hire those who have taken career breaks or spent time in industry and are looking to return to audit. Our vacancies for qualified auditors are open to supporting the upskilling and reintegration of returners into our business.

A look into the role

We're looking for an Assistant Manager with external audit experience and a passion for financial services to support our growing client portfolio.

Here's what you can expect from the role:

  • You'll manage audit engagements across a range of financial services clients, consistently delivering high-quality work to deadline while understanding the commercial drivers of productivity, recoverability, fee income and client service.
  • You'll act as a key day-to-day contact for clients, building trusted relationships and taking a leading role in managing audits for larger and more technically complex entities. You'll identify significant audit and accounting matters, escalate key issues to partners and directors, and contribute to developing appropriate audit responses and client recommendations.
  • You'll help ensure financial statements and audit reports meet the highest professional, regulatory and technical standards, while acting as a point of reference for audit methodology and best practice within the team.
  • You'll supervise, coach and develop junior team members, providing regular feedback and creating an environment that supports learning, development and high performance.
  • You'll work closely with specialists from across our wider Financial Services Group, drawing on expertise in areas such as valuation, regulatory reporting, and tax to deliver an exceptional client experience.
  • You'll embrace our digital-first audit approach, using the latest audit technologies and data-driven insights to improve audit quality, drive efficiency and focus attention on areas of greatest risk.
  • We'll empower you to act as a trusted business adviser to your clients, taking responsibility for managing key relationships and delivering outstanding client service.
  • You'll support the continued growth of the Financial Services Audit practice by participating in networking and business development activities, identifying opportunities to introduce the firm's broader capabilities and contributing to proposals for new work.
