I am a consultant in the firm’s Strategic Clients practice and Chairman of the Grant Thornton Governance Institute. Up until June 2018, I had been lead partner for a number of the firm's larger external audit clients and have more than 29 years' experience in the role of partner delivering audit, assurance and risk management services to public and larger private companies.

During this time I founded our Business Risk Services practice and while I have worked across a wide range of sectors I have built a particular expertise in Construction and Support Services. I am the author of the FTSE 350 Corporate Governance Review, the UK's leading research document into the UK's Code of Corporate Governance - a key reference point for the FRC in all of its recent reviews of the Code.

I frequently present on governance trends and developments and lead the firm’s Governance Institute, responsible for undertaking projects to assess and strengthen organisations’ governance practices ranging from reviewing the effectiveness of their boards through to supporting a full corporate renewal.

I was a member of the FRC's steering group responsible for the Guidance for Effective Boards which replaced the Higgs guidance and was the author of the 'Are They Experienced' research commissioned by the FRC which looked at the experience of Non-Executive Directors following the financial crisis. I also supported the Walker review and The New Risk Equation looking at the evolving business model.

I am a former audit committee chair and advisor to the Royal College of Nursing.
