Paul Hope Associate Director Birmingham +44 (0)7775 554 103

As a Forensic Accountant, I investigate and help resolve accounting puzzles, for any size of client across any sector. I specialise in dispute resolution; providing clear and robust advice for my clients and their legal advisers, and preparing expert witness reports for use in Court proceedings, tribunals, arbitrations, determinations and mediations.

The projects I get involved in are typically complex (usually financially, but sometimes also legally, technically and/or politically). I thrive on getting my hands dirty, digesting the data, separating the real issues from the noise, establishing the facts and providing clarity. Understandably, most clients don’t relish the prospect of getting a Forensic Accountant in as it’s usually because something bad has happened.  As such, I love getting to the end of a project to be told: “We’ve enjoyed working with you (but we hope we never need to see you again).”

I’ve worked on well over a hundred assignments. Contentious insurance claims (business interruption) and deal-related disputes (price adjustments and warranty claims) make up a disproportionate amount of these, but I have also worked in many other scenarios, such as shareholder disputes, breach of contract, matrimonial disputes, agency disputes, loss of profits, professional negligence, personal injury and investigations into fraud, misconduct and irregularities.

Every day is different, which is one of the things I love most about my role. Although I’m based proudly in my native Birmingham, my work over the last 15 years has taken me to many interesting places around the country and the world, and Barnsley.

When not crunching numbers, I’m usually having fun with my wife Caroline and our three very noisy children. When I can escape from them I like to run, ski, mountain-bike, cook, drink wine and hoppy IPAs and, occasionally, sleep.
