I have more than 10 years’ experience in business taxation, focussing primarily on restructuring since 2011. I now specialise in providing tax advice to corporates, lenders and insolvency practitioners covering all aspects of restructuring and accelerated M&A.
This can vary from projects involving companies in severe financial distress where it is likely that an insolvency practitioner will be appointed, to those where the directors of the company have forecast a potential breach of banking covenants and wish to take preventative action.
This will typically involve advising upon the tax implications of debt restructuring or the sale/purchase of assets from an administration or liquidation.
In addition, I assist colleagues in our forensics practice with potential tax implications of internal fraud and corruption investigations, dispute settlements and contentious valuations.
Recent projects include advising on the tax implications of a sale of business assets from insolvency, considering whether tax was correctly stated in short and medium term cash flow forecasts and advising on the availability of the corporate rescue exemption on a proposed consensual debt restructuring.
Sitting within the restructuring practice has given me a deep understanding of our insolvency code and the commercial pressures faced by stressed and distressed businesses, allowing me to tailor our tax advice to best serve the needs of each individual business.
Outside of work I enjoy running, photography and spending time with my wife and young daughter.
