How Suffolk Ltd is compiled

Suffolk Limited 2018 has been compiled using the most recent publicly available accounts as at 8th of October 2018 and is based on those businesses which are both owned and managed within the county.

Inevitably, there is a time delay between the availability of the data used and the presentation of this report. The report gives an interesting insight into how Suffolk has performed during these ever changing times, with uncertainty surrounding Brexit continuing. When reflecting on the encouraging messages from last year's Suffolk Limited, it is positive to see that the county continues to grow its turnover, which is even more impressive given that Servest Limited, which sat at number three last year with a turnover of £284 million, has left the Top 100 given their recent acquisition.

Excluded from the survey are a small number of the county’s largest businesses where ownership is overseas, management and strategic decision makers are based outside the county or are listed entities. The most well-known of these is Greene King plc. This has been done to ensure results are not unduly skewed.

Although total turnover in the Top 100 has increased, the turnover threshold for companies to be included in Suffolk Limited 2018 decreased from £15.6 million last year to £14.9 million this year. There were 12 company leavers and joiners in Suffolk Limited this year, leaving 88 ‘continuing’ companies featuring across both years.
