Leading business and financial advisory firm Grant Thornton UK LLP announces the retirement of longstanding partner, David Barnes, at the end of the year.
David joined Robson Rhodes in 1981, working out of offices in Manchester, London and New York, before focusing on the education sector and becoming the firm’s Head of Education in 1999. He continued in this role following Robson Rhodes merger with Grant Thornton UK in 2007.
With effect from 1 January 2016, Richard Shaw will replace David, as Head of Education. Richard has been advising universities and colleges operating in the higher and further education sectors for more than 20 years and was recruited in 2014 to further strengthen Grant Thornton’s education offering.
Carol Rudge, Global Head of Not for Profit commented; “We wish David all the very best; he leaves behind a fantastic legacy, including excellent sector thought leadership which we will continue to develop under Richard’s leadership. Richard’s focus on winning higher and further education audit, assurance and advisory engagements for the firm has proved very successful and I am confident that he will enjoy leading the education team which has evolved so well under David’s care. Our education team is a key strength for the firm and is an integral part of our not for profit industry group.”
