Grant Thornton appoints new social care advisory team

Leading business and financial adviser Grant Thornton UK LLP has expanded its public sector offering with the appointment of a new social care advisory team. Alex Khaldi, Nick Clarke and Kieran Lee all join from Capita.

Alex Khaldi joins Grant Thornton as a partner with a demonstrable history of developing large-scale change programmes in health and social care. Alex will utilise his experience as a successful consultant, deal shaper and delivery expert in local government and healthcare to form the firm’s offering in this space.

Nick Clarke joins the firm as a director with over 15 years strategic and operational change experience. Nick has specialised in social care transformation since 2014 and has recently designed and led the delivery of a market leading review of adult learning disability services.

Joining Grant Thornton as an associate director, Kieran Lee will provide leading expertise on social care transformation. He will utilise his extensive background leading successful operational strategy and business improvement projects in the UK, Australasia, Asia and Europe.

The team will lead on developing the firm’s social care capability within its existing local government advisory offering. They will focus initially on developing an adult social care consultancy service and a new data insight platform, Adult Social Care Insights. The tool will be the first of its kind and will provide market leading expertise and insight for clients.

On the team’s appointment, Alex Khaldi commented, “We have been struck by Grant Thornton’s sense of purpose and vision for social care. Councils are currently facing a once in a generation funding challenge as they are increasingly expected to do more with less and the unprecedented demand of both adults and children’s social care threatens to overwhelm their finances.

“The current models shaping our social care services are clearly struggling under the increasing pressure and need replacing with a more sustainable solution. Our insight will develop the firm’s advisory capacity and we look forward to working with, and expanding, the firm’s already impressive client base as we help them navigate the financial tipping point they currently face.”

Sarah Howard, head of public services, Grant Thornton UK LLP, added: “Addressing the challenges presented by social care is a critical part of Grant Thornton’s mission to shape a vibrant economy. That’s why I am delighted to welcome Alex and his team on board.

“We share a vision for better public services, powered by new insights, and delivered more collaboratively. Nowhere is the pressure greater than in social care and this investment is a significant statement of our commitment to our public sector clients, who are asking for the kind of innovation and fresh thinking that the team brings.’
