Grant Thornton appoints independent Chair of its Partnership Oversight Board

Grant Thornton UK LLP today announces the appointment of Ed Warner OBE as the new Chair of its Partnership Oversight Board. The Partnership Oversight Board oversees the governance of the firm in its entirety in a manner similar to that of a public company. As such Ed will be the first independent chair of any major accountancy firm in the UK.

The firm has a clear vision to become the go to firm for growth, helping to shape a vibrant economy and creating lasting value for its clients, people and the communities in which it serves. Ed's broad ranging commercial experience and insight made a strong contribution during his time as an Independent Non-executive director with the firm. His perspective from outside of professional services will be invaluable as the firm continues to break the mould in the profession.

Ed will take up post From April 1, 2016.  His appointment was ratified by the firm's partners following consultation with the leadership team and current Partnership Oversight Board.

Ed has significant experience of chairing a wide range of complex and high profile organisations as well as a strong understanding of Grant Thornton UK LLP, having been one of its first Independent Non-executives appointed in 2010.

Commenting on his new role Ed said:

"Working with Grant Thornton over the last five years, I have seen the firm really carving out a unique place for itself within the market and a step-change in the way the business thinks and works with its clients to deliver value. I am looking forward to working with the strong leadership that is already in place to help accelerate this."

Sacha Romanovitch, CEO of Grant Thornton UK LLP, said:

"The appointment of an independent chair at this stage in the firm's evolution is a further example of us leading the way in modernising the profession. On a personal level, I've found Ed's external market perspective, ability to cut through to the heart of the matter and practical approach to dealing with issues most valuable. I've seen Ed working closely with our Elected Members, and feel this dynamic means we have the best of both worlds as we work to fulfil our ambition of becoming the go-to firm for growth."

Steve Maslin, the current Chair of the Partnership Oversight Board at Grant Thornton UK LLP, will have served his maximum term in the position in July 2016.  He said of Ed's appointment:

"During his time as an Independent Non-executive, Ed has also been a member of the firm's Partnership Oversight Board and is now Chair of both the Remuneration and the Profit Sharing subcommittees. The Elected Members of the Partnership Oversight Board felt that, as an external Chair, Ed will bring an additional measure of independence to the role."
