Regional case study – Leeds office – The Christmas Dinner (TCD)
The Christmas Dinner (TCD) takes place on Christmas Day and is open to 50 care leavers (between the ages of 18 and 25) who would otherwise be alone. TCD is the brainchild of Lemn Sissay, MBE (Poet, Broadcaster and currently Chancellor of University of Manchester) who grew up in foster care and children’s homes.
Businesses in Leeds, including Grant Thornton, support this project and volunteers come together to organise a 5 star experience for guests including an individual, hand written Christmas card (often in their native language), a Christmas gift, Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and entertainment throughout the day.
This is truly a very special day for care leavers and would not be possible without the support and commitment of local businesses in Leeds. Grant Thornton are extremely proud to be part of this initiative.
Regional case study – Bristol office – The Prince’s Trust
Our relationship with the Prince’s Trust started in 2015 when the Bristol office participated in The Prince’s Trust Million Makers Challenge. As a result, the team was crowned regional champions after raising over £8,000 for the charity. Shortly after learning more about this inspiring and invaluable charity, it became the local office partnership for 8 months. During that time, Bristol colleagues raised a further £10,600 through a number of successful and innovative fundraising activities.
The partnership meant we heard many inspiring stories we could share. We met many 'Young Ambassadors' whose lives have changed for the better through their connections with this great charity. Often an emotional experience, it is heartening to see how the support we give really makes a difference to people’s lives.
We know too, that it takes more than money to change lives. Grant Thornton is ideally placed to offer time and skills to support people with whom The Prince's Trust works. Their 'Get Hired' programme enabled many Bristol colleagues to share their expertise to prepare young people for interviews, help to them feel less nervous and boost confidence through this process. Volunteers supported individuals with CV preparation, interview questions and provide valuable confidence building feedback. This was effective in supporting development, growth and personal success, illustrating one of the many ways our firm is able to contribute to a vibrant economy and societal impact.
It was amazing to see how our fundraising supported The Prince’s Trust to continue their fantastic work shaping a better future for others. An individual might eventually work at Grant Thornton one day!
