I am currently on a full-time secondment to Grant Thornton International Limited, working on a global project revising the firm's audit methodology and software. In that project I'm leading the European team contributing to the revised methodology. In my role I oversee the audit technical department within our national assurance services department, supported by a head of audit technical.

Before moving into my current roles, I had more than 20 years of experience within public sector and not-for-profit external and internal audit covering local government, NHS, higher education, further education and charities.

Over the past five years I have focused on audit methodology and audit quality. For three years, as the director of audit quality and compliance for our public sector assurance practice, I undertook re-engineering of the application of our audit methodology for public sector work and led the audit quality review programmes, including working closely with external regulators, overseeing an increase in audit quality in our public sector practice during this period. Previous to this role I was on secondment to the Audit Commission as their head of audit quality and compliance.

Outside of my day job I am a co-opted member of the Audit Committee at a further education college, and a trustee and treasurer of a learned society charity. I have previously been a school governor and hospital governor. I am an avid sports fan, particularly football and cricket, and in my spare time am undertaking a part-time PhD in palaeontology.
