Having spent most of my 20s pursuing research into high temperature superconductors, the arrival of my daughter brought me to by senses and I trained to become a chartered accountant in tax. My early years were spent in the energy sector – I was involved in some fascinating projects including advising clients on the emergence of new tax regimes in former republics of the Soviet Union, and supply chain management of large oil companies.
I now lead the provision of stamp taxes advice for my firm, a role which puts me in touch with many colleagues and a broad spectrum of clients. Although my work is fairly niche, I take a broad-based advisory approach, bringing all relevant tax and commercial factors together. I love the variety of circumstances that I encounter, and I thrive on the challenge of generating practical, commercial solutions to ensure that our clients are able to perform their property and business transactions in a simple and tax-efficient way.
Outside work, I am now completely addicted to badminton – although if you watched me you might question why – and I love to switch off and get away from it all by making regular visits to walk up fells in the Lake District. I enjoy the peace, solitude and beauty of that wonderful corner of England.
