Before joining the firm I qualified as a chartered accountant and then spent six years specialising in restructuring companies around the world, from crisis management to financial, strategic, personnel and operational restructuring. I then became a main board director and shareholder of two property development groups involved in commercial, mixed-use residential/retail and hotel properties.
With this background I joined the firm and, as the head of real estate, I work with many stakeholders in the real estate sector including:
- real estate investors, lenders and developers – providing advice on fund raising, development, feasibility and appraisals, structuring and value enhancement and risk mitigation
- corporates and occupiers of real estate – providing advice on real estate occupational strategy and planning, leasing, structuring and funding to enhance both profitability and performance.
Some recent assignments include the following:
Creating and implementing a plan to relocate a large manufacturer's operations. This exciting project will provide a safe and stable platform from which the company can expand and trade for the next 30 years. We have created a plan to redevelop the current operational base and will use the development profits to fund the development of the new site. Once relocated on the new site, current estimates show an improvement in EBITDA of some 35%.
Sale and leaseback of four commercial properties. The key to this transaction was finding a funder/landlord that not only paid the right price and charged an appropriate rent, but also understood and believed in the business and management team.
Raising funding to enable a hospital developer and operator to commence the development of a brand new nationwide real estate platform from which it will trade.
