I am very proud to be responsible for building and maintaining strategic and long-lasting relationships with our most significant clients, ensuring we create value and provide a high-quality service. This latest role with the firm follows seven years as managing partner of our London offices and a member of the national leadership team. During my stewardship we grew our London business to over £300m revenue by broadening our offerings, investing in new capabilities and providing solutions to help our clients grow.
However it's another part of my role that brings me the greatest satisfaction: I have the responsibility to create a positive environment for our people. Seeing our people flourish inspires me to ensure we continue to create a working environment that coaches, nurtures and inspires others to be the best they can. This is something that Grant Thornton passionately believes in and I am delighted to be part of it.
Every day is different and a change from my 15 years' working in corporate finance, which is experience I put to good use when meeting with clients and discussing their growth strategies and connecting them to our people. Previously I was chairman of the ICAEWs corporate finance faculty, I'm now an ambassador for the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, which enables me to be hands-on helping our future generation.
My wife and two daughters keep me busy outside of work. We live in Harpenden with a holiday apartment in Brighton. My other passions include watching football (a long-standing season ticket holder at Chelsea FC), running (I've completed one marathon and numerous half marathons), yoga, music (rooted in being a teenager in the '70s), reading, film, art and travel. And in August 2014 I spent two weeks with my daughter doing voluntary work in Tanzania, which was a truly amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone.
